TOP 10 Frequently asked questions - Question 9
9. What domain name is best for me?

Every domain name has it's own unique purpose. We have outlined the benefits of each name below.

.com.au
The ideal namespace for Australian commercial entities. It is reserved for Australian entities with a valid ABN, ACN, Registered Business Number or Incorporated Association Number.
Our Advice: If your business name is available in the .com.au space, it's a must have. This is truely Australia's premier space with over 200,000 registered.

.net.au
A great secondary namespace to .com.au, it has the same eligibility criteria as .com.au, and has generally been associated with the IT related sites in the past.
Our Advice: If your .com.au is unavailable, this is a great alternative. If you've already registered your .com.au, you may wish to secure your .net.au for furture use. It's no good to you if someone else owns it!

.org.au
This domain space is reserved for Australian Not for profit incorporated entities. Great if your a registered charity, or not for profit group. It also happens to be the cheapest namespace on the market.

.asn.au
The only non-personal Australian name that does not require a registered commercial entity for registration. This is perfect for Associations, church groups and sporting clubs.

.id.au
The perfect namespace for individuals. Please see our domain information page.

Protect your web presence:
Have you considered registering your .com, .com.au, .net.au, .co.nz variants of your domain? The deciding factor usually depends on how serious you are about Protecting Your Online Value. Ask yourself whether it would disturb you if a competitor registered these domains? Our easy to use and reliable Web and Email Forwarding services allow you to point as many domains as you want to your website.

Web with benefits:
Another benefit of registering multiple domains is the greater probability of being located on Search Engine listings. An interesting fact is that many Search Engines now feature region specific searches. You can perform a generic search, or you can select the 'Search Australia Only' option.

How the search works is simple; an 'Australian Only' search may prioritise addresses that end in '.au'; a 'New Zealand Only' search may prioritise addresses that end in '.nz'. To guarantee your website is listed and accessed by both regions you will need to have both domain names registered.

In contrast to the above, neither the '.au' nor the '.nz' domains will stand a chance of competing against the '.com', or rather the TLD name space, if someone submits a generic search with no regions specified.

If you currently conduct business in other countries, or one day plan to expand then we recommend securing your country specific domains now.
